Dragon tamer digital painting tutorial. This video tutorial shows you how to draw and paint a dragon tamer. This tutorial shows you from drawing step to rough semi-finished painting. In this tutorial, I start with a rough idea of a duel between flame throwing creatures. But eventually, two dragons and a dragon tamer emerge as final painting. Most of the time, the contexts is less important to me as long as I maintain the composition. Minor detail or characters can change, but not the core of the painting. First, I use the lasso tool to create a back wall, columns, and boulders. Then I add vertical lines on the wall using texture brushes. The vertical lines are there to show the sense of scale. Then I paint a silhouette of a big creature with flat brush in the foreground. Then I use texture brushes to creature light source, forms and textures on it. I add wings and some spikes on its back. At this point, I am only concern with shapes and lighting. After that, I paint a rough character facing the creature in front of the wall. Once I have my idea fully composed. I add some glowing fire on the dragon’s face. Then add some fog in between the mid section to create some depth of field. At this stage, I only focus on big shapes, lightning and base to get the overall look and feel of the scene first. After all the elements and composition is set with good lighting then we can start doing a bit more detail.
