Blood elf character concept art tutorial. How to paint Blood Elf World of Warcraft part 2. This digital painting video tutorial shows you how to paint female Blood Elf warrior from World of Warcraft. I painted this as a loose underpainting in 2011. Now in 2016, I just have some free time to actually take it a bit further. It is not quite done yet. I still need to put in a pack of wolfmen. You can scroll down below to see step by step images with instruction.

Painting over an old painting is part of my routine. It is a good practice for every artist. Frank Frazetta does it with some of his paintings. I just thought it is a really good idea. It can also tell you if you have improved over the years. And I have a lot of unfinished painting, especially the ones I made for Youtube video tutorials.
This part of painting is more like mid stage of the process. We usually call it WIP or work in progress.
First, the proportion of the character was off. The armor was way over size. I use a lot of cut and paste tools in Photoshop to fix that first. Second, I make sure the silhouette is interesting. Then I readjust her position and pose. I have to be sure that it fits within the composition. Third I clean up the accessed paint. I also make sure the line of light and shadow is clear. If you light and shadow are not clear, the form will look flat. Or worse, it will look wrong. Once I have all the foundation down, I will start to add detail.
Below is step by step image process.
Things to focus on.
1) Fix your proportion and anatomy if present.
2) Make sure your pose fits the composition
3) Clear definition of light and shadow
