Draw character design tutorial Hells Guard concept art tutorial. This tutorial shows you how to draw and paint a character design of a Hell’s guard character in the more stylized approach. You can scroll down further to see step by step images with instruction.

In this tutorial I start with a rough idea of hell’s guard but in a cute stylized so that he could possibly fit in maybe Final Fantasy VII or the likes. I first explore with shapes on my canvas. Big head and small body like children in some way to convey cuteness. Then I tackles on the character design with the front lighting. At this stage, I only focus on big shapes, lighting and base to get the overall look and feel of the character first before I can design the detail of the armor, etc.
You have to first take care of the big shape then rest will take care of itself, I will just add the detail to the background and characters as I go on painting.
I use a lot of lasso tool painting technique in this video. Hopefully this can be really helpful to you all.
This time though I have a good idea of what I want to paint. But sometime, I will just let the visual shapes and color guide me as I go.
Again I usually start my image from shapes and build those shape up along with composition in mind. The lighting and value.
