Chris Mcquarrie is to direct Starblazer or Battleship Yamato. He directed Jack Reacher, MI5, Jack Reacher, Valkyrie, also wrote Usual Suspect.
Oscar winner Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Jack Reacher, the forthcoming Mission: Impossible V) will write and direct a live-action feature film version of the 1970s anime classic Star Blazers for Skydance Productions. The intention is to hatch a franchise from a series that was ahead of its time, coming before Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica.

McQuarrie actually came onboard this “Star Blazers” project back in 2011, when he was hired to pen the script for the production. After turning in a strong effort with “Jack Reacher” — which subsequently landed him the directing gig on “Mission: Impossible 5” (both are produced by Skydance) — it appears the studio is quite fond of McQuarrie.
