In this tutorial I start with a rough idea of a arena filled with people or audiences. I first create a wall with lasso tool then use different texture brushes. I usually download them randomly whenever I see some cool brushes. Then I use texture brushes to convey texture on the wall and construction of the arena. Then I add small figure right in front of the wall and the big gigantic figure closer to the viewers. At this point, I am only concern with shapes and composition. Then I paint a few people in the audiences and make multiple copies so I can fill the seats in the arena. Once I have my scene fully composed. Then I add more detail and texture on these characters and setting the lighting direction. At this stage, I only focus on big shapes, lighting and base to get the overall look and feel of character. In this case, I chose strong lighting direction from the left side under clear sky. Then I add a few strokes to create some texture on the sand and dirt. Once all the elements and composition is set with good lighting then we can start doing a bit more detail.
