Digital painting tutorial Drone assassin speedpaint. This tutorial shows you my process of speedpainting. This piece takes me a bit less than 30 minutes to paint. The topic was “poison darts” so I have to come up with some story before I start painting. First I was thinking about a hunter in the jungle setting, then I realize I usually set up my scene in natural landscape setting, and hardly ever have any interior setting. So I decide that I would have the hunter, later becomes assassin, inside a structure or a building. Then I decided to make the genre science fiction instead of my usual fantasy setting. Now I have setting and design direction.
Next, I think of the action shot within the composition. I am thinking of the assassin dude standing over the defeated opponent. The creature was shot from behind and the scene is about what happen after. As I work on the interior, my head was thinking about familiar object around the office like beams, copy machine, desks, etc. And that why it turns out look like interior of an office building. And I decide that I will have the dude be a drone in stead of having a guy in a mech suit. It doesn’t make much different visually, but that is that.
Here is the final image of a drone assassin.
