Painting office concept art tutorial

In this post, I am painting office concept art tutorial office interior inside a skyscraper somewhere. I have been reading a lot of science fictions recently. I am trying to pick one of the three to finish. On my kindle fire at the moment there are Ender’s Game, Old Man’s War and Leviathan Wakes. And this somehow reflect my train of thought in a good way. I am trying to push my conceptual work into the direction of futuristic science fiction. Books have always been huge help to inspire my imagination into the right direction.
In this tutorial, I am using Photoshop CS 5. It is very common among concept artists in entertainment industry. You can also use Painter or Gimp, both will work as well. If you have been following my blog for some time, you will notice that I have a lot of drawing and painting tutorials of mostly in fantasy category. Yes, I love Conan, Game of Thrones and many of them. But it is time I diversify my work. And I also switching my focus into environmental concept work after many years of designing characters. I still design characters for games companies and movies studio, just hoping to get more environmental work. So I work on environmental concept on my own time and little tiny step at the time to get my foundation on perspective solid. Perspective knowledge is the key to be good at environmental concept design, especially in science fiction theme. Now I am trying to do more study on the subject so that I can get better at it.

It is just a basic idea of a futuristic (or contemporary) office concept art. The image I have in mind is the scene of a stock broker or high rank officer standing there looking out to the panoramic view of his glass windows. It was generally a broad idea of first then I start to narrow it down by putting a back story to it. It is a lot more fun and easier for me if there are some sort of story behind the concept or illustration I am working on. That’s why I read those books I mentioned above.

Here is a final speed painting of an office room design.

I know that this is a really short tutorial, but it should give you some idea.  There are more tutorial on this blog, some are long and some are short.  Just look around, I am sure you will find something useful.
