Painting lava surface background in Photoshop. This is another concept art piece that I just added background onto the existing character concept art that I already did for clients. Similar to the previous two post on painting rock and water and painting cloud. I will not explain much in this introduction.
I used Photoshop in most of my painting both work and personal. Tablet is also essential and you should have one whether you are amateurs, seasonal, or serious painters. I prefer Wacom tablet.
Below is a finished painting of a volcanic underworld scene with a demon character.

Below are step by step how to paint lava in Photoshop tutorial. Step one, I paint simple shapes of lava river and rocks for background. Step two, since I tilt the angle of the background in the final, it is really difficult to paint. So I tilt it into horizontal position so it is a lot easier to put lighting and detail in. Step three, I define more light and shadow. Step four, I added texture onto rocky area and hot river of lava. Step five, define hot area then add smoke and steam. Step six, clean up and finish the illustration. If this tutorial is a bit too hard and too confusing for you, you probably have not been to this blog before. Please look around for more tutorial that will suit your need. There will be a lot of easier ones you can watch then you will get the idea of how to get to this one. Peace!
