How to draw Iron Man

How to draw Iron Man from The Avengers, Marvel comics, version Mark 6. A genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, Tony Stark creates a powered suit of armor to save his life and escape captivity. He later uses the suit to protect the world as Iron Man. Mk6 is the sixth generation Iron Man armor was constructed in the wake of heavy damage sustained to the fourth and fifth generation armors, and makes use of a more advanced arc reactor than its predecessors. The Mark VI suit first saw battle against a small force of robot drones and the remotely controlled War Machine armor.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to draw Iron Man Mk 6 with triangular shape on his chest instead of a circle. You will learn to draw his helmet and armor suit in natural stance pose. This is a basic step by step drawing instruction and should be easy to follow. First, I usually start drawing with simple geometry shapes to construct the basic head and body. This process will make your drawing process a lot easier. The intention is to get the shape and proportion right in the beginning. No matter what you are trying to draw, once you understand its foundation, you can keep drawing process at ease.

Below are step by step how to draw Iron Man Mk6.  Step one, I sketched a basic helmet or head shape.  I make sure the eyes are in the correct place as in regular human’s face.  Step two, I then put his eyes and mouth onto the front surface area of the helmet.  Step three, I then put in his body armor and its detail.  I also loosely sketch his arms.  Step four, I then added more mecha detail onto his sleeve armors.  Step five, I finished the rest of the Mk6 armor.

Here is another Ironman 3 quick painting update in May 2013. I just saw the movie so I thought I’d do some speedpainting. Though I end up spend a few hours on this one. There is a bit of twist in this version, I decided to do a chibi or SD (super deform) of Ironman. Chibi is a Japanese slang word meaning “short person” or “small child.” The word has gained currency amongst fans of manga and anime. Its meaning is of someone or some animal that is small. It can be translated as “little,”
The armor based on Ironman mark 42 in the movie. My intention with this painting is to play around with the lighting and setting. It is a bit challenging for me to try different way to light the scene. I also provide step by step process from line drawing to finished painting and video tutorial on how I approach this painting. Hope you like it.

Thank you for your warm words & advice. As I m using painter, do you suggust using Gel Airbrush as the media for coloring?
Also, your mentioned pen`s pressure, is this refer to the `Hardness`?

  4. Xia Taptara says:

I use default brush setting most of the time. Don’t worry so much about that, very minor stuff. Just make sure your pen is pressure sensitive, that is all there is to it.
Fancy brushes won’t make your art any better than it already is.
You have to FOCUS on the value (light and dark). Once you nailed it, no matter what brushes you use…the piece will be good.
Tips on Brushes is you have to understand edges. 1,000 brushes can only produce 3 kind of edges. Hard, soft and lost… no matter how many brushes there is still only 3 edges. Don’t know if you get it now but if you keep painting for years then you will.

I can just use default round, hard and soft to paint, as shown below.
