Digital painting tutorial Batman

Digital painting tutorial Batman. This tutorial is a paint over or you could say color over the previous drawing of Batman from How to draw Batman. In this post, you will learn how to paint Batman from step by step images in Photoshop in painterly style art. It is not a typical comics book style coloring. As for that, I will soon post a digital painting comics style for Spider man some time soon. The tutorial is suitable for beginner to intermediate level. Also you will need a tablet, I highly recommend Wacom intuo and cintiq tablet. They are widely used among professional concept artists. In this tutorial, I will show you a simple way to approach digital painting using lines then value.  I spend about thirty minutes to complete this particular digital painting for a demo purpose, not a refine finished piece by any mean.  This is one of the most proper way ways to paint, most of the time I rely on light and shadow to create shape and form for a character. Hopefully the tutorial will help you gain knowledge of shape, value and edges in painting.
Batman is a fictional character, a comic book superhero created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. In the original version of the story and the vast majority of retellings, Batman’s secret identity is Bruce Wayne, an American millionaire (later billionaire) playboy, industrialist, and philanthropist. Having witnessed the murder of his parents as a child, he swore revenge on criminals, an oath tempered with the greater ideal of justice. Wayne trains himself both physically and intellectually and dons a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime. Batman operates in the fictional American Gotham City, assisted by various supporting characters including his crime-fighting partner, Robin, his butler Alfred Pennyworth, the police commissioner Jim Gordon, and occasionally the heroine Batgirl. He fights an assortment of villains such as the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler, Two-Face, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess any superpowers; he makes use of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess, martial arts skills, an indomitable will, fear, and intimidation in his continuous war on crime.

Here is a final painting of Batman.

Below are step by step how to paint and color Batman or Darknight.  Step one, I bring in the previous drawing of Batman then scan it in to Photoshop.  Step two, I use medium gray to fill in his whole body then apply some basic shadow.  Step three, I paint over some light with soft brushes.  Step four, I apply color using overlay (multiply and color layer would work also).  Step five, I refine the existing color and value to make it tighter.  The trick is to paint it with the color and value that are already there.  Step six, I painted in some hot spot or highlight according to the direction of the light source.  Done!
