Thank you all for awesome entries! If you didn’t make it this time, no worries there will be another one. We just want to say great job to all of you.
Congratulation! You guys are the top 10 finalists of the Round 2: Eternal Nemesis. Three of the judges have finally selected 5 final images from Team Dog and 5 final images from Team Cat. Now we will all cast the final vote. Who ever has the MOST number of VOTES win! Final Voting will go on until Thursday May 12th (Final day to vote on the POLL is May 12th at midnitght)
Winner will receive $25 Amazon Gift Certificate!

To be honest, I was surprised with the final ten, but my brother suggested that maybe the pictures that are most professionally drawn are not the ones picked for the finals, but the ones that are most creative. Keep that in mind for round 3.

I think they are going by the creativity and variation in style. I know my Anubis was just a remake of the character through my eyes. These pieces do have that creativity… but, I’m still surprised Tom didn’t make it! His WolfBeast was awesome!
I had to go with Lief though, His is a great Beast concept. Though, I feel not as creative as some of team cats.

Kind of surprised tom grahams didn’t make the cut here either, that was a clear winner for me. Anyway best of luck to the artsists. Especially Octavian, have become such a fanboy of his lately!

My personal tastes are stuck between Benjamin and Octavian (by the way Octavian is a great name, is that your real name? if so I want it).

Lol I like how in the finalists image it has my image in there and it looks like it totally shouldn’t be there. Like it should have been just B and A on one side and C and D on the other but it looks like E snuck in there.
As you guys might be surprised by the 10 finalists. I am surprised with the voting result as of now.

I suspect someone is getting people from outside the community to vote. Which I’m pretty sure is frowned upon. However there isn’t much anyone can do about it I guess. anyway… care to critique my pic Xia? Would be nice to know what I did wrong so I may improve for the next round.

Yeah Tom, I showed my friend this website earlier today, me and him were discussing the arena, He was really surprised (as was I) that the judges didn’t have you in the finalists. I’m sure that they chose these out of creativity, but I thought the contest was about The most BAD ASS BEAST! Some of these don’t even look finished. No offense, but one even looks on the “cute side” I just wish I knew what the judges where looking for…???
Not, to mention how Bad Ass my piece was! Holding a bloody cat head and a Scythe! lol but, I guess we just can’t all be winners. But, Tom’s was a winner in my book!

Hope it’s not an “outside” of the community thing? it is best to win or lose knowing that you had the forsight that losing is a possiblity, you gain more knowledge and better understanding and ideas by seeing yours and others thoughts visualized. Winning though effort is better than “winning” with out effort and pride there is nothing left but a word…. but enough gypsy talk from me bring on round 3
and thank you again Xia putting together the artistsarena . i personaly look forward to each round and seeing each new visualized idea the community brings. also i voted A) Lief.

If I had known it was about creativity over being “badass” I would have drawn a dog with testicles for feet and penis’s for ears…
I am one of those that thinks a professional finished look wins over a creative look. Sorry but that’s just my opinion.8runs for the hills*
I think the point i made above was misunderstood. Comment was about if people where getting others from outside of the community (not the artists who make up artistsarena community) to vote for them, that they where only cheating themselves. @ john there cant be one without the other.. example (you can have all the understanding and knowledge of how a digital munipulation program works, but if you lack the artistic creativity to bring that knowledge to life than there is nothing) @ Tom hands down i think you piece was very creative and had that “beast” on point. I would have loved to see you actually win for that redering man or in the very least made top 10..

Honestly, I have never seen any contest that all the entries rant so much.
Where is all the resentment and negativity come from?
Where are all your sportsmanship?
So what if you did not make it this time? But did you do your best? Did you not learn something from the process?
There is always the next one.
Can you put your latest piece into your portfolio?
Is this a bad idea to arrange the contest?
I think you guys are missing the point. The point of the contest is that we want you guys to have fun and do your best to slowly build your portfolio. Like the piece that Jakob Siebentritt painted, he could put that one in his portfolio for sure, so do a few other from the first round.
This is just a fun contest, the real world is out there!
Try get your portfolio going with good pieces then you can apply for jobs!
This is a tiny little community and you should help and support each other!

@ Xia , exactly the point i was trying to make. I agree 100% it is fun and helps build portfolio, and makes us learn. just like the portfolio i had to build and establish through every tattoo i did at my shop. every piece i do weather it is tattoo, pencil drawing, airbrush, digital w/e it is i always feel like i could have done better and adapt what i did or didnt like to my next creation..
i will have to second xia in this…
don’t be upset cause you weren’t chosen. be sure you did a great job because of all the nice words you recieved from the guys that weren’t judges instead.
and please respect the judges and the guys they chose.
@xia: these constests are a GREAT idea! i can’t really talk for anyone else but in my case they result in progress and that’s the importaint thing, even though I’m not looking for a job as an artist in anyway.
Yeah this arena is very good for me.. I found drawing by request or task funy ^^. I like to see others drawing on same task. Everyone have own style. I had no ideas what to draw and now I want to attend all rounds !! I posted my picture after dead line and I know it, but people still comments and trying to help, and thats awesome
My picture is still in wip, but I will post final after I made coloring.. thats took much time for me.. cause I always drew only with pencil to my school notes xD
So Xia dont worry about little flame here, I think its normal in every contest

Complaints should be expected on the internet. People’s initial reactions to any event they have been anticipating will be to measure it against their expectations and give attention to the flaws… like an artist. As you remind us to remember why we entered this contest and to find ways of enjoying it, I must remind you of why you started this contest. The artists here will find value in their work at a later time, when they are not thinking about winning or losing. You may not see them chat about it, but it will happen. Please continue to enjoy running the contest and try not to measure it by the initial negative reactions in chat. We all worked a lot harder on our entries than we did on this little comment list.

Xia, I assume that is mostly directed at me. And I’m sorry.
Let me start by saying I appreciate everything you have done for the thousands of people who follow your blog. You have taught me so much about digital painting I am in your debt immensely. The fact you do it for free in your own time shows what a selfless person you are.
I was trying to prove to myself and my family I had what it takes, and I feel like I failed. It has made me question if I should even continue down this road.
Please keep the arena going, I will refrain from negative remarks from now on. Much respect.

In my opinion Beckjann Duvair’s piece is the best in terms of character design. the first one (A) is just well presented.
